Taking a selfie can actually be a dangerous endeavor as this list will show. In 2015 there were more deaths due to selfies than shark attacks. Most selfie deaths are due to falling. Russia even released a guide on how to not die while taking a picture of yourself. So next time you take a selfie be aware of your surroundings first, taking the perfect selfie is not worth risking your life for. This list is very sad with non better than others so I have listed it according to dates.
#10 Tragic Love Selfie – January 2015
A couple in a long distance relationship met for the first time in January 2015. The pair visited Northcliff Hill in South Africa. While standing to take a selfie against the setting sun a rock gave way and Miss Holloway fell 15m to her death.
#9 Daredevil Selfie – January 2015
Three Indian students died while taking a ‘daredevil’ selfie. The young men wanted to take a photo of themselves on the railway track, near Kosikala, India, as close to an oncoming train as possible. The timing went horribly wrong as the train knocked into them killing them on the spot.
#8 Electrical Surge Selfie – May 2015
Anna Ursu, 18, posed with a friend on top of a train in the north-eastern Romanian city of Iasi when her leg touched a live wire above, sending an electrical surge of up to 27,000 volts through her body. A passer-by attempted unsuccessfully to put out the flames devouring the teenager
#7 Moscow Bridge Selfie – July 2015
The woman, a 21-year-old graduate of the Russian State University of Tourism and Services Studies, reportedly wanted to make a selfie in front of one the famous landmarks of the Russian capital, but fell from the bridge while taking the photo.
#6 Bull Selfie – August 2015
A man has died after being gored by a bull in a Spanish town while taking a selfie on his mobile phone. Spaniard David González Lopez, 32, had his back to the charging beasts while trying to film the bull run and did not see the one which attacked him until it was too late. While he films a collision between two bulls, one of which appeared to fall unconscious, a third bull runs towards him and gores him in the back, tossing him in the air.
#5 Shooting Selfie – September 2015
A Houston teen died yesterday after trying to take an Instagram selfie while holding a loaded pistol to his head. The gun went off accidentally and shot him in the throat. He died at the scene. 19-year-old Deleon Alonso Smith had found the gun with his cousin earlier in the day. They were posing with it for Instagram when it went off, prompting his uncle to run to the apartment and try to resuscitate him, but Smith died at the scene.
#4 Taj Mahal Selfie – September 2015
A Japanese tourist has died after allegedly slipping down the stairs at India’s Taj Mahal monument. An eyewitness said that the tourist fell while taking a selfie at the Taj Mahal’s Royal Gate. Police said he lost consciousness immediately after the fall and succumbed to head injuries in hospital.
#3 Extreme Heights Selfie – September 2015
A schoolboy fell to his death while trying to take an ‘extreme selfie’ from the roof of a nine-story building. The teenager, identified only as Andrey R, had climbed to the top of the building in Vologda, Russia, to add the selfie to his collection of photographs in dangerous places. But, as he attempted the picture in the fading light of the evening, the boy slipped and fell.
#2 Moving Train Selfie – December 2015
Trying to take a selfie turned fatal for an engineering college student. Prakash plunged 60 feet down and died when the rock on which he was standing cracked and gave way, police said. Prakash had gone to Kolli hills, about 65 km from here, with his six hostel mates on Monday and bathed in the falls, the police said. All of them were taking selfies and Prakash decided to take one on a small rock jutting out of the hillside. But it suddenly cracked and gave way. He fell down about 60 feet, suffered serious head injuries and died on the spot, police said.
