The following is a list of most expensive football association transfers, which details the highest transfer fees ever paid for players. The transfer fees in this list are in Euro’s.

23 year old, James Rodriguez, Colombia’s star man at Brazil 2014 and winner of the Golden Boot — penned a six-year contract with the reigning European champion after his transfer from Monaco to Real Madrid was completed in a reported $121 million deal. The 10-time European champion, Real Madrid,  has always aimed to buy the world’s top players, and Rodriguez certainly fits the mold following his exploits at Brazil 2014, where he scored the goal of the tournament against Uruguay.

#9 Alvaro Morata €81.7m  – 2017

Chelsea announced the completed signing of Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid on a five-year contract in July 2017, after he finalized personal terms and completed a medical.  When asked why he wanted to move to Stamford Bridge, the 24-year-old, Alvaro Morata, replied: ‘Because it’s the best club. Antonio Conte is one of the best coaches in the world and I’m so happy to work with Antonio.’

#8 – Luis Suarez,  €82.3m – 2014

Liverpool (ENG) have agreed to sell striker Luis Suarez to Barcelona(ESP) in July 2014. The Uruguayan, 27, who is serving a four-month ban for biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup, signed a five-year deal. Suarez – Premier League top scorer and winner of the PFA and Football Writers’ Player of the Year awards – signed for Liverpool from Ajax in 2011 for £22.7m, and had four years left on his contract.

Manchester United (ENG) struck a deal for the Belgium international, Romelu Lukaku, July 2017 to transfer from Everton (ENG). The 24-year-old Belgian scored 25 goals in the Premier League last season for Everton. He is one of only five players to score 50 Premier League goals before his 23rd birthday, and the fourth player (and first foreign player) to score 80 before his 24th birthday. As a Belgian international, he holds the all time record of 31 goals scored for the Belgian national team.

In 2013, Barcelona (ESP) decided to buy a skinny Brazilian teenager named Neymar Jr. from Santos FC (BRA). This was a very controversial move, as Barcelona paid quite a princely sum for this skinny teenager named Neymar who had never played in Europe but was absolutely ripping up the Brazilian league. And so, there was a lot of speculation whether the Neymar transfer fee was too high. He’s since blossomed into one of the best players in the world.

Juventus (ITA)  have agreed to sign the 28-year-old Argentinian striker in 2016.  Gonalo Higuain has scored a remarkable 71 goals in 104 Serie A matches for Napoli (ITA), including 36 in 35 last season to break the all-time record for a single season. He started his career with Argentine club River Plate, before a transfer to Real Madrid in January 2007. He joined Italian side Napoli in the summer of 2013, where he won the Coppa Italia during his first season.

#4  Cristiano Ronaldo, €94m – 2009

Ahead of the 2009–10 season, Cristiano Ronaldo joined Real Madrid(ESP) in a transfer from Manchester United (ENG)for a world record transfer fee at the time. Ranoldo is  Portuguese who now plays as a forward for Spanish club Real Madrid and the Portugal national team. Often considered the best player in the world and widely regarded as one of the greatest of all time. A prolific goalscorer, Ronaldo holds the records for most official goals scored in the top five European leagues.

#3  Gareth Bale, €100.8m – 2013

Real Madrid(ESP) broke the world transfer record at the time to sign Tottenham Hotspur(ENG) forward Gareth Bale. The Wales star has agreed to a six-year deal. Bale joined Spurs as a left-back from Southampton in 2007 and scored 26 goals the previous season as he was named both the Professional Footballers’ Association’s and Football Writers’ player of the year.

#2  Paul Pogba, €105m – 2016

On 8 August 2016, Pogba returned to former club, Manchester United (ENG), on a tranfer from Juventus (ITA) on a five-year contract for a then-record for highest football transfer fee.  Paul Pogba is a French player who began his career with Manchester United in 2011, he joined Italian side Juventus in 2012. Internationally, at under-20 level, he captained his nation to victory at the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup and took home the Best Player award for his performances during the tournament. He was awarded the Best Young        Player Award for his performances at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Neymar set a world-record move to Paris Saint-Germain (FRA) worth around after telling Barcelona (ESP) he is leaving, making him the worlds most expensive player. Neymar, who is Brazilian, came into prominence at an early age at Santos (BRA), where he made his professional debut aged 17. With 53 goals in 83 matches for Brazil since debuting at age 18, Neymar is the fourth-highest goalscorer for his national team.
