#10 Tortilla Soup (2001)

The storyline centers around a retired Mexican-American chef who lives with his three daughters. He lost his sense of smell and taste when his wife died but still continues to cook lavish meals for the family. The woman humor him but are looking for fulfillment outside the home. This movie is a warm comedy that wets your taste buds.

#9 Babette’s Feast (1987)

This is a Danish drama film and was the first Danish movie to win an Academy Award. The story centers around two sister in a 19th century Danish village, they take in a refugee, Babette, as their servant. Many years later Babette offers to cook a French meal for the sister to thank them. The movie has one of the most beautifully rendered depiction of a lavish meal ever seen on screen.

“Waitress” is a comedy-drama about an unhappily married woman, Jenna, who works as a waitress at a diner and bakes phenomenal pies. When Janna finds a mutual attraction with a new doctor in town this creates further complications in her life. If you like pies, you will enjoy this movie.

This is a British television series that is edited into a feature film. Steve Coogan has been asked to tour Britains finest restaurants, but after his girlfriend backs out he must take his best friend, Rob Brydon. The two constantly bicker and try to undermine each other as they go about touring the restaurants.

This movie has a great cast, starring Johnny Depp, Judi Dench and Juliette Binoche. The storyline is about a single mother and her young daughter who move to rural France and open a chocolate shop. This shakes up the rigid morality of the community. A film to awaken the senses and stimulate the sweet tooth.

I had first read the book “Like Water for Chocolate” and loved it. I was so happy when the movie came out. The movie is about how life used to be in Mexico and shows the lives, beliefs and values of another culture. It is a romance that also centers around the wonder of cooking. Tita, who is in love but banned from marriage. She loves to cook and throughout the movie shares her cooking skills and recipes.

#4 Julie and Julia (2009)

This is a remarkable movie, it has an excellent cast, features romance, comedy, drama and most important of all – lots of food. Meryl Streep plays Julia Child and the movie is the story of her life in cooking and how it intertwines with blogger Julie Powers (played by Amy Adams) as she performs a challenge to cook every recipe in the first Julia Childs cook book.

#3 Ratatouille (2007)

One of Pixar’s best movies – Ratatouille, a masterpiece of script, story and animation. The movie centers around a street rat with a passion for fine food. Although he lives in the sewer under a French restaurant his passion for cooking soon sets in motion a hilarious ‘rat race’ that turns the culinary world of Paris upside down.

#2 Fried Green Tomatoes (1991)

This is an amazing movie starring Mary Stuart Masterson, Mary-Louise Parker, Kathy Bates and Jessica Tandy. This movie will make you laugh and cry (as well as want to make fried green tomatoes). The story is about an unhappy housewife who befriends an old lady in a nursing home and is enthralled by the tales of the people she used to know.

#1 No Reservations (2007)

Although this movie is more of a ‘chick flick’ than a serious classic, it is still an amazing movie. If you are looking for a movie with a little romance and lots of cooking then this is it. Catherine Zeta- Jones and Arron Eckart play their parts well with great chemistry both are chefs but life becomes complicated when Kate becomes guardian of her young niece. The other factors that puts this movie on top is the sound track – great music and after watching and listening to this movie you will just have to get into the kitchen and create something delicious.
